If you want to live a life with any sort of joy or hope in it then you have to understand the difference between pain and harm.

Pain is a sensation of discomfort. It can be horrible. But it is only a sensation.

Harm is a shift in your existence that makes you worse or less than you were before.

It’s possible to experience horrific pain without being harmed and to experience terrible harm without experiencing pain. They’re not the same thing. In fact, pain is the sensation that harm may be about to occur. It’s a warning signal to be careful.

And if you believe they’re the same. Then you’ll begin to run from the warning sign of harm instead of harm itself. But warning signs in the body change. And the more you run away from pain, the warning sign of harm, the more easily you’ll experience pain.

But if you learn the difference between pain and harm you can learn to experience pain and even utilize it to feel more alive while reducing the amount of harm that comes to you which will eventually result in less pain as you realize you’re more capable of enduring difficult things than you thought.

Learn to experience and embrace pain without harm and you will be able to conquer the only world you’ll ever need to conquer, the one inside your own mind.
